  • Suzanne Macahilig has combined a career in performance, teaching, research and community arts. Former faculty member, New York University, University of California, Santa Cruz, and the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts; more recently, she has conducted lecture recitals and a master class at the University of Hawaii, New York University, and 3 seasons of Piano Institute, at UC Berkeley. She performs on the Monterey Peninsula and the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose State University, Fall 2022.
  • Suzanne completed piano studies with Seymour Lipkin (renowned pianist and faculty member, Juilliard, Curtis Institute) and earned the Ph.D. Music, at New York University where she received the Roger Phelps Award for her dissertation. She performed in master classes of Jorg Demus, Austria, and David Burge of Eastman School of Music, at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada. She also performed in chamber music master classes of the Alban Berg Quartet in Salzburg, Austria and Munich, Germany and for the Emerson Quartet at Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill, Maine.
  • At the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, she received the M.M. Piano completing piano studies with Nathan Schwartz and analysis studies with John Adams. A University of California, Berkeley alumna, admitted as a mathematics major, she received a B.A. in Music, after completing piano studies with Bernhard Abramowitsch, harmony studies with composer, Andrew Imbrie, and analysis studies with composers, Fred Lerdahl and Earle Brown.
  • Community arts work included organization of and local foundation fundraising for four seasons of Monterey Chamber Music Workshop, a tuition free, string quartet program for local youth, accepted by audition by and conducted by the Baumer String Quartet.
